The Citadel is located in the middle of Amman and has been inhabited since the Neolithic period. During the Bronze period ‘The Citadel’ was fortified, but the appearance today is mixed Roman through Islamic. There are four very interesting places to visit either inside or very near the Citadel: Jordan Archaeological Museum, Temple of Hercules, Umayyad Palace Complex, and the Byzantine Church.
Roman Amphitheater is over 2000 years old and is in the center of downtown Jordan. At the theater’s peak it could hold over 5000 attendees. The amphitheater is considered ancient ruins at this point, but still holds performances from time to time. The theater has wonderful Roman architecture, is very affordable to visit, and also includes two museums in the Amphitheater’s admission fee.
