Maddie asked:
I am taking a trip in May and would like to know and receive advice on which location is better for a five day vacation. So Damascus or Amman?

Amman, sadly, is becomming increasingly Westernized. Damascus, to this day, has retained much of its cultural identity and because of this, feels much more authentic than Amman does. In addition, Amman has very little to entertain the average tourist while Damascus (the oldest continuously inhabited city on Earth) has countless ruins, some of which date to more than 500 B.C.
In addition, Syria is largely untouched by tourists. In such cities as Cairo (and to a lesser extent, Amman), you’ll see foreigners everywhere, and most people speak English. Syria has very few tourists and while fewer people speak English, you’ll be sure to find genuine Arab hospitality untainted by Westernization. (Just remember to respect the culture by dressing modestly)
