Amman is very safe, and Jordanian are nice to the strangers but not to eachothers :)
Any way, It’s safe clean and quiet.

Jordan is a safe country pollitcally, mainly because it has a small population and little natural resources. Also law enforcemnt is strong. You will find your jordanian collegues very friendly, as long as you dont insult anyone, no one will give you any trouble.

But the country is boring to live in and quite expensive, even though the quality is usually low.

It is very safe, however you may find that it is too safe! What do I mean by this? The laws there are very strict and may be hard to understand if you are accustomed to United States laws. There are many more ‘thought-crimes’ and freedom of speech laws than here, at least from an American’s point of view. Basically, be careful what you say and Amman will be safe for you.
Let me put it this way, if you have no problem living in a city in the United States, you will have no trouble in Amman as long as you mind your words, be careful where you take pictures and respect the local culture.

i am an iraqi, and after the war i had to leave iraq
i now live in syria, but before that i lived in jordan which is very safe but expensive
there, amman is divided into two parts, the eastern and the western
one of them( i cant remember which) is for the high class people who u will find comfort with cause 90% know english very well
the other side is the poor part. which u will find poor jordanians and many iraqis.

now my best friend live in jordan, and my aunt’s family and my uncle’s family

u can say that 5-10% of the people in jordan are iraqis.

there it is all mountains, and if u like to jogs or go walking u wont be able to do that if u weren’t at a gym or a mall or a shopping center

if u find anything mysterious or any question u can e-mail me and i will give u the answer

    good luck

Public safety is much better in Jordan than in US cities.
Read a bit about the local culture to make sure you do not insult anyone out of ignorance.
Jordanian people are very friendly so you should be OK.

Here you find some info on cost of living:

Very safe. You can walk about the streets with no problem and the people are friendly.
Amman is very hilly and the roads are built on a grid of circles.
One thing you must not do is criticise the royal family.
