I do not know the layout of Amman… Although I have found plenty of hotels on websites, I do not know what area is central and walking distance to shops, restaurants, etc. What is the best area to stay in that’s close and central to everything, thanks.

Amman is lovely city, I was really surprised by the first post, cause Amman is a safe and very friendly city,
As you said, there are lots of great hotels in Amman, but it is really wide spread, I mean, most of the hotel are more than a walking distance from the market, the closest to the market ( A street called Sweifieh) is the Crown Plaza Hotel, it is like a ten minute walk to the street. But it is not the best Hotel in Amman. There are also a couple of huge malls, but none of them is close to a hotel.
If you are looking for the best, The Four Seasons, Intercontinentl and Grand Hayat.
Amman’s best area is the west of Amman, where the Four Seasons is.
I hope you will enjoy your stay in Amman, especially if you move around and go to Jerash, Petra and the Dead Sea.

That depends on how much money you want to spend on hotels, food, etc. There are so many hotels in Amman that are in walking distance from each other that you could just pick when you’re there. There are many hotels that are in downtown Amman but I suggest you try hotels that are near the University of Jordan or near a place called “Abdali”. Abdali is apart of Amman that has a prominent bus station that can practically take you anywhere in Jordan. In fact right across the street from the bus station is a hotel called the “Toledo” hotel. Abdali would be a very convenient place to stay if you plan on using a bus or taxi throughout your stay. From Abdali, you can take a bus (bus fair should be around 25-30 cents) to downtown Amman where they have antique shops and restaurants. If you’re looking for fancy restaurants or even McDonalds then you would go to an area called “Sweifeyeh”, “Abdoun”, “Shmeisani”, “Mecca Mall” etc. There are food stands, stores, and restaurants every other step you take in Jordan so no matter where you plan to stay you’re not going to go hungry. One restaurant that I used to love going to was called “Lebanon snack” and they’re located everywhere. If you’re looking to buy souvenirs there’s a place called “Afghani” (there’s one in Mecca Mall and in Sweifeyeh). You might find the same souvenirs in downtown Amman cheaper by a little but this place is very organized and well worth the money. When you’re visiting Jordan make sure you see 1.) Petra 2.) Dead Sea 3.) Jerash 4.) Madaba 5.) Al-Karak castle 6.) Wadi-Rum 7.) Aqaba and 8.) Um Qais. There are many other places to see but those are just from the top of my head. If you truly want to experience everything in Jordan the best thing to do would be to befriend a local resident to help you find your way and to tell you of all the “hot spots”. Anyway, as I mentioned above I think any hotel near that bus station in Abdali would be the most convenient place to stay. I hope you enjoy your time!
