my father was stationed in jordan during his national service and he is very curious to know if his squadron (249) is still there or indeed any u.k. forces for any reason and if the situation has been resolved.

I wouldn’t have thought so after the Suez fiasco but the British military has cordial links with the Jordanian military and joint military exercises are not unheard of
there is a 249 squadron association your father might like to look into
and this is from the RAF history

Follow th efirst answerers’ links they’re a great source of information for men such as your father. Unfortunately we no longer have a station in Jordan but we do maintain relations with them.
