Come on over to Dragonsfoot.org – it’s mainly older editions of D&D but you can find players in your area, as well as playing online (whether chat based, play by post, play by email, or play live with certain systems).
It’s a great place to find others of a like mind and to ask for suggestions about starting a game. Again it is the more old school editions (AD&D 2E and earlier, all the way to the original 3 booklets, as well as some other role playing games) but there are also simulcra that make gaming those games, easy, fun and free.
