MOST JORDANIAN SPEAKS ENGLISH AS IT IS AN OFFICIAL LANGUAGE THERE,AND FOR OTHERS WHO DO NOT,THEY HAVE THE BASIC KNOWLEDGE OF ENGLISH FROM THERE SCHOOL,SO IT WILL NOT TAKE A LONG TIME FOR HIM TO LEARN IT,ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE WILL BE SOME TALKING PRACTICE.

Your question is missing essential information, such as where do you live now, how long has he been living there, why is he there. All this is important to know if he is actually willing to move back. As others said, English is easier to learn than Arabic, and I bet he has basic knowledge of the language which makes it even easier.
I wouldn't commit to moving there until after spending few years with the guy and getting to know his past and his family. You could always visit and check it out for yourself.
Like all major cities, Amman has its very good neighborhoods and its bad neighborhoods.

I'm married to a Japanese man. He was my student in English class. We speak English in the home. The kids speak English. but outside the home is Japanese. I keep him in English because it give me one up on him but what ever the language you will always have mis-communications and will need a sense of humor and a lot of patience. He is a man after all and verbal skills could be wanting in whatever language. Learn the body language, too. :)

You're engaged and can't even communicate?

Alrighty, your first bet is to decide where you are going to live the rest of your lives together at. Is he going to come to live with you, or will you be moving, permanently to live with him. Are you ready to accept his religious and cultural background, or is he ready to accept your religious and cultural background?

Speaking of the Arabic way of life, do you understand and know what he expects out of you as a woman? Do you know how women in his culture act? Are you willing to do what is needed to blend in?

Once you decide on where you plan on getting married, and raising a family, then you can decide who should move where. If he moves to be with you, you should make an effort to learn his heritage, and vice versa. Unfortunately, you may sacrifice more freedoms as a woman in an Arabic society. Learn the laws of his land if you're going to live there.

And last, if you cannot communicate...then maybe rethink your expectations of this relationship. Communication is key to a good and lasting marriage...miscommunication and misunderstanding can be disastrous in your situation. Think it over extensively.

Good luck!

Wow, that's very interesting...whats the attraction if you don't mind me asking. How do you know you want to be with this person for the rest of your life if you can't communicate?

But to your question...I think it should be equal. You should learn Arabic and he should learn English..the fact that you guys have a connection, its a great opportunity to learn from each other.
***EDIT***

OK person below me...wow, you have watch "Not without my Daughter" one too many times. That is a generalization you are making, there are many Arabic men out there that are not the tagged media Arabic's. I know many men from Afghanistan, Pakistan, and even Jordan that are just as "Americanized" as you and I. So don't be throwing out fearful comments to her. Although I would caution her to not move there until she understands the culture and language. But that would be a good idea for anyone moving to another country.
Take care and good luck

I think you both need to do the learning.
Language means communication, how will you communicate and learn about each other and cultures if you don't understand each other.

Everyone should speak English. It's the universal language. His learning English will take him much further and be much easier than your learning Arabic.
