I was in Amman in 2005 and I walked around the streets with no problem. I stayed at the crown plaza near the 6th circle. Across the street was the Al-Sharqi shopping area. There are some hotels over there but I don’t know the names. But if you tell the taxi driver you can stay right in the shopping area. There was a very nice bakery and market that I went to a couple of times.
In Amman you should check out the Roman Amphitheatre / Citadel and the Gold Souk. The citadel is very interesting, you can see the Kings palace and it is the place where David sent Uriah to die in battle so he could steal his wife (2 Samuel 11).
The Gold Souk has lots of shops with really amazing gold jewelry, even if you don’t buy its fun to look at.
Petra is 164 km. I took a taxi and it was $75 and the half day tour with a guide was $20. There are hotels in the area and you can stay overnight but I came back the same day.
Don’t tell anyone your jewish and you should be OK.

There is peace between Israel and Jordan.
Jordanians have not singled out Jews from the USA or any other country as targets for acts of terrorism.
Generally speaking Jordan is safe to all.
Specific advisories regarding Americans are hereby presented. (State Dept)
Jordan Travel Advice
Still Current at: 25 February 2008
Updated: 5 February 2008
Jordan
This advice has been reviewed and reissued with amendments to the Summary (reference to exceptional weather conditions removed). The overall level of the advice has not changed.
SUMMARY
There remains a general threat from terrorism in Jordan. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers.
There have been a number of successful and attempted terrorist attacks in Jordan since 2001. On 4 September 2006, a shooting incident in downtown Amman left one British national dead and a number of other tourists injured. On 9 November 2005, three ******* bombers killed 60 people and injured almost 100 in hotels in Amman. There were no British casualties amongst these. The Jordanian security forces continue to remain on a state of alert.
If you are planning to travel to Jordan, you should be careful about, and confident of, your personal security arrangements throughout your visit. Although levels of crime are generally low, women, in particular, should be careful to avoid situations where they might become victims of sexual assault. There have been three reported incidents in September/October 2007. See the crime section of this advice for more details.
You should take extra care at the borders with Israel and Iraq. You should take particular care when using Jordanian service taxis to cross into neighbouring countries.
Developments in the region may trigger public unrest. You should take care to avoid demonstrations, which can turn hostile, and be particularly vigilant in public places.
The main type of incident for which British nationals required consular assistance in Jordan in 2006 was for illness. Most visits are trouble-free.
We strongly recommend that you obtain comprehensive travel and medical insurance before travelling. You should check any exclusions, and that your policy covers you for all the activities you want to undertake. Please see General (Insurance) and Travel Insurance for more details.
I am an Israeli, I spent time there on more than one occasion, never had a problem.

It does not matter if the person is Jewish or whatever, Jordan is a safe place to visit. He will not walk around the street with a sign painted on his back saying he is Jewish. The same as visiting any country just go with respect for other people and be aware of your surroundings.
